How to Make Faster Decisions

Facilitator Discussion Guide

Summary

This discussion guide outlines a sample script for people leaders to facilitate a team discussion on enhancing decision making. The conversation should last approximately 30 minutes and is intended to help team members navigate a framework for overcoming decision paralysis so they can make faster decisions.

Target Audience: People leaders in the client organization

Responsibilities: Instructional Design

Tools: Microsoft Word

The Problem

The client was concerned about the speed of decision-making on many of the teams within his organization. The client wanted People Leaders to hold a discussion with their teams focused on making faster decisions. He requested to incorporate this Ted Talk and asked for a leader script for the discussion. This project was billed for 3 hours.

The Solution

My solution produced a leader guide for facilitating a team discussion on making faster decisions. This guide would be distributed to all people leaders within the organization. The guide includes:

  • Facilitation instructions

Meeting logistic recommendations, pre-work, setting the discussion tone

  • Discussion script

Presented in bullet points for easy skimming; includes time guidelines

  • Brainstorm activity

Meeting kickoff activity; activates prior knowledge

  • Framework for overcoming decision-making paralysis

Communicates framework described in pre-work Ted Talk

  • Decision making practice activity

Decision sorting practice activity that leverages list created in the kickoff brainstorm activity

  • Additional discussion questions

Provided to integrate throughout the discussion or review following framework presentation

  • Change management plan

Indicates what would need to be done to support the change in decision-making within the organization
